Palazzo Pomello Chinaglia

Palazzo Pomello Chinaglia

Via Roma, 3 , Montagnana (PD) - 35044

Palazzo Pomello Chinaglia dates back to the Fourteenth century, when it was built as a fortress-house for the wealthy bankers Bocarini Brunoli da Leonessa. The family was the birthplace of Jacopa da Leonessa, future wife of the famous leader Erasmo da Narni known as Gattamelata.

In fact, her frescoed coat of arms is still visible on the eaves: a proud rampant cat, a symbolic memory of her numerous victories on the battlefields. At the end of the 15th century the residence passed to the noble Pisani family, from the San Polo branch, as evidenced by the stone coat of arms with a rampant lion positioned above the entrance portal in the center of the facade.

Later, in the nineteenth century, the building was acquired by the Pomello Chinaglia family, industrialists and landowners, who still own it today. Declared a National Monument, the Palace consists of a central body with a sumptuous hall for parties, a sixteenth-century secondary body, a large barchessa also from the sixteenth century, a manor garden and an ancient orchard used as a vineyard.
