The trail begins at the parking lot of the Municipal Office in Onigo and briefly climbs up the road of Via Boschi until it meets, on the right, a fork where there is a large sign with a map and technical details about the trail itself. After ascending the hill of Liona, one consults a small stone and copper artifact at the summit; it is the “rose of the winds” that indicates various topographical, historical, and panoramic points of the entire area, from Grappa and Cesen to the Treviso plain.
Descending from the Colle to the north, one immediately follows, on the right, the path that leads to the 13th-century Hermitage of Saint Elena. Just before the Hermitage, the original path gently ascends to the left until reaching the remains of the ancient and historic castle of “Mura Bastìa.” The Trench Path, after leaving the “Mura Bastìa,” continues west along the wooded ridge, offering – through some natural windows – beautiful views to the north of the Piave valley and Mount Cesen.
Continuously following the trench, where some defensive positions can be seen, one arrives at the western edge of the trail, at a fork called Serra de Ciàlt from which one can descend south to meet the Strada dei Boschi; or continue north on the section better known as Sentiero dei Rònch. This heads east until a notch in the ridge. The short ascent that follows is aided by a few meters of metal rope that lead to Serra de Pizzaia.
Now one descends south (but it would also be possible to retrace the Trench Path encountered here) along the section known as Sentiero dei Bòsch, which is followed eastward along a path immersed in broadleaf trees and flanked by beautiful panoramic meadows, passing near the little church of S. Martino. At the intersection of Pra dell’Acqua, one finally returns to the paved road that quickly leads back to the Municipal Office.
