The monument to the soldier of Italy located along the Feltrina State Road is framed by Monte Grappa, Monte Tomba, Cesen, Montello, and just below flows the Piave River. It was inaugurated on November 5, 1988, in commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the conclusion of the Great War.
It was created by Venetian sculptor Gianni Aricò at the request of a group of citizens gathered in the Promoting Committee. The monument is a composition of twenty bronze statues divided into five groups representing different moments of the war: farewells to families, the march to reach the frontier, the refugee, the barrier set up by men from the Piave and its banks, the hope for a more serene future.
As stated by the President of the Promoting Committee, General of the Alpine Troops Edoardo Giani during the inauguration ceremony: the monument is “dedicated to those men, to those young people, to those boys who made an offering of their lives and who — in any case — both in war and in peace gave, are giving, or will give something of themselves to the Fatherland.”
