Cittadella is the only city in Europe to have a medieval walking path, elliptical in shape and fully walkable. You can walk along the Walls at a height of 15 meters, admiring a unique panorama.
Experience “Walking Through History”
The city walls of Cittadella are one of the few examples of a defensive system with a walkable walking path, perfectly preserved over time and still intact to this day. It is therefore one of the most beautiful defensive systems in Europe. The walking path is a 15-meter stroll and was the ancient guard walkway used to defend the city from above in case of enemy attacks. The recent restoration has allowed for the safety of the ancient walking path, enabling visitors to admire the city from new and privileged viewpoints, a truly unique experience. The visiting route is nearly two kilometers long, and along the way, you can visit the rooms of medieval reenactment and setup in the Captain's House. Additionally, inside the Torre di Malta, you can visit the Belvedere, which is almost
thirty meters high, the Siege Museum, and the Civic Archaeological Museum. From above, the landscape spans the surrounding countryside: you can admire the Euganean Hills, the Berici Mountains, the foothills with the walled towns of Marostica and Asolo, and Mount Grappa.
Access to the walking path is at Porta Bassano near the Captain's House, at the IAT Tourist Office.
