The walls of Cittadella are the only ones in all of Europe to have a completely walkable elliptical medieval parapet walk.
The walls form an imposing fortified enclosure that is 1,461 meters long, with an average thickness of over two meters. They rise to about 15 meters, reaching 30 meters in the sturdy towers. The entire defensive system rests on a solid earthwork and is surrounded by an ancient moat, elements that once ensured great security for the city. The walls are punctuated by as many as 36 towers of various sizes, among which four towers with gates stand out; among these, Porta Bassano is considered the most fortified point of the entire complex.
Today it is possible to walk along the fascinating medieval parapet walk, which runs along the top of the walls at about 15 meters high and offers spectacular views of the historic center and the mountains on the horizon. During the visit, you can also enter the Captain's House, where there is a frescoed hall and a room dedicated to the history of the city. Halfway through the route stands the famous Torre di Malta, one of the most evocative symbols of the fortification.
