The Church of San Floriano can be reached from the center of Valdobbiadene by both car and foot along the road leading to Pianezze. Located in a panoramic position, it rises at the top of the hill of the same name. Its existence is first mentioned in a will from 1424, but it was completely rebuilt in 1724 and completed with the lighthouse bell tower in 1802.
Due to its destruction during the First World War, the church was rebuilt and expanded.
A series of period photographs show the damage it suffered from wartime bombings during the Great War.
Inside, it is possible to see the chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Fatima so that the Virgin would keep the town safe from military incursions and massacres. In addition to the statue of “Our Lady of Fatima,” placed on June 4, 1950, and the recent mosaic dedicated to her, there are also images showing the damage the church has endured.
The main altar, made of carved and polychrome wood, dates back to the 17th century and is topped by a large altarpiece created by the Saccordo sisters from Padua.
In the large square adjacent, one can stop to admire the historic center and the hills of Valdobbiadene. From this viewpoint, one can see, to the west, the hamlet of Ron, and to the east, the bell tower of San Pietro di Barbozza rising among the UNESCO World Heritage hills recognized in 2019.
Recently, the “Literary Bench” was installed, created by the sculptor Valentino Moro.
The work represents the union of the Piave River with Mount Cesen, two significant symbols of the landscape of Valdobbiadene.
Anyone wishing to hike towards the area of Mount Cesen can take the 1007 trail.
