Duomo di Valdobbiadene
Piazza Marconi , Valdobbiadene TV - 31049
The first mention of the Pieve of Valdobbiadene dates back to 1297. Over the centuries, the building has undergone various renovations, the most significant of which occurred at the end of the eighteenth century when it adopted its current neoclassical style. Inside, it houses numerous works of art, starting with the large fresco that dominates the ceiling and culminates with the Assumption of the Virgin Mary into Heaven, up to the lunette featuring The Visit of the Mother to Benedict XI by Teodoro Licini. Notable are: the Altarpiece of Santa Maria Assunta by Beccaruzzi, The Virgin with Saints Rocco and Sebastian by Paris Bordon, and the Altarpiece of Saints John the Baptist, Jerome, and Anthony the Great by Palma il Giovane. Next to the Pieve rises the majestic bell tower, designed by architect Francesco Maria Preti in 1743. On the south façade, the sundial created by Abbot Giovanni Follador, a distinguished mathematician-gnomonist, from the first half of the nineteenth century, is prominent. This is a "mean time" sundial, characterized by its extreme precision in time measurement.
