The Salzano Spinning Mill was built between 1870 and 1872 by the Jewish Romanin-Jacur family. It was a state-of-the-art facility with the best technologies introduced in Italy at that time, from processing techniques to silkworm breeding. It soon became one of the most important in the Veneto region reaching even 250 employees - mostly women - in a predominantly agricultural regional economy. By the 1930s the spinning mill was forced to close, first because of racial laws, and later because of the advent of new synthetic fibers after World War II. Today the spaces of the manufacturing plant house the Museum.
The Spinning Mill Museum consists of two souls that also visually divide it in the eyes of the viewer: an interactive area, designed to attract even the youngest visitors, and a more classically museum-like area.
The Spinning Mill is "magically" rekindled and thanks to innovative multimedia technologies, the visitor becomes the protagonist of a real experience reliving what work was like in the ancient Silk Factory.
Upon entering the Spinning Mill Museum, the first element that catches the eye is the immersive room: the visitor can choose and view, interactively, three videos about the work inside the spinning mill, its creator Leone Jachia Romanin - Jacur and about silkworms, the real raw material of the spinning mill.
An innovative type of technology plays a key role in the Salzano Spinning Mill Museum: in fact, the "Silkboard" represents a completely new museum experience. The silkboard is a simple piece of cardboard, but through it the visitor can discover the Museum's themes and contents in a completely autonomous way.
The Silkboard serves as a screen for text, images, and films, and visitors can use it to move around the Museum by selecting content in the three macro areas namely: The Silkworm, The Spinning Mill, The Salzano Spinning Mill.
