Monumento a Vittorio Emanuele II

Upon the death of Vittorio Emanuele II, in January 1878, the most prominent personalities of the city worked to commission a marble statue to perpetuate his memory, to be placed in what was still called Piazza dei Signori at the time. The installation of the work, created by the sculptor Giulio Monteverde, took place on September 25, 1881; on that occasion, the entire paving of the square was redone, which was then named after him.
