Palazzo Honorij Guastaverza

Piazza Brà , Verona (VR) - 37121

Palace Honorij-Guastaversa is a majestic building that overlooks Piazza Bra and is part of the so-called "Liston".

Completed in 1555, it was designed by the well-known Veronese architect Michele Sanmicheli, commissioned by Bonaventura degli Honorij. The project, as it was realised, foresees a portico with drafts and heads in the keystones composed of five imposing rusticated arches that recall the massive arches of the Arena, completed only after Sanmicheli's death. The façade is an example of classical perspective, with airy windows and balconies.

The palace was the official residence of many historical Veronese families, including the Sparavieri counts (at the end of the 16th century), the Allegri counts (from 1666 to 1701) and finally the Guastaverza counts (from 1701). After the death of Silvia Curtoni Verza (in 1835), the building passed to her direct nephew Orazio.

Since the beginning of the 20th century the building has been used as a restaurant, and in 2003 the facade underwent a major restoration.
