Statue of Vittorio Emanuele II

Piazza Bra , Verona (VR) - 37121

Vittorio Emanuele II (Turin 1820 - Rome 1878) was the first king of Italy: thanks to the support of Camillo Benso, Count of Cavour, he was able to unify the kingdom of Italy in 1861, becoming known as “father of the Homeland”.

The statue was placed on 9th January 1883 and it was made by Ambrogio Borghi (1848-1887), a sculptor from Milan who won the contest published in 1880 for the creation of this monument. The work is in a mediocre state of preservation; it is well valued thanks to its favourable location in one of the most famous squares of Verona.
