The church was built in 1521 by the Confraternita of Callegari near a hospice for pilgrims and an Institute for the Exposed (abandoned children) built since 1282 with the title of St. Mary of Mercy.
On the facade above the entrance door outside there is a high relief depicting the image of Mary, who welcomes under the mantle those who turn to her (as in the image of the Madonna di Monte Berico).
It was renovated in 1810-1812 by the Bassano architect Antonio Gaidon (1738-1829). In 1813 a new chapel was built in honor of Blessed Giovanna Maria Bonomo where her body was transferred from the suppressed convent of San Girolamo. Since then it has been called the church of Blessed Joan.
Inside the Church there are some relics that belonged to Blessed Joan and many ex-votos for the countless graces she received.
