The Chiesetta dell'Angelo was built by Giovanbattista Bricito in 1655 at the behest of Don Domenico Da Veggia as a fulfillment of his vow to Blessed Giovanna Bonomo, Copatron of Bassano del Grappa, and dedicated to the Guardian Angel who appeared to her.
The architecture is a typical example of the local taste of the time. As a matter of fact, the facade, with adjoining bell tower, consists of four pilasters with frieze and tympanum, the elliptical plant has a side choir, the walls are punctuated by giant half pillars that enclose arches with windows. To the west opens the chapel with marble altar and the altarpiece dedicated to the Guardian Angel.
The church is covered by an oval dome set on the trabeation with triglyphs and metopes. The Church, displayed inside a rich decorative apparatus, partly preserved in the Museum and partly exposed in the metopes of the frieze.
The church was built on land donated by Pietro Stecchini, who purchased it at the time of the Napoleonic suppressions in 1810, and was mainly used as a private oratory and open to the public only in very limited circumstances. In 1978 the Chiesetta was donated to the Municipality of Bassano del Grappa which, together with other public and private bodies, promoted the architectural and pictorial restoration.
Since 1985 it has been home to cultural initiatives such as temporary exhibitions, conferences and debates organized by the Culture Department of Bassano del Grappa.
