Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II

Located in the heart of the city center since the Middle Age, Vittorio Emanuele II Square is surrounded by magnificent Venetian buildings, which overlook the majestic bulk of the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta.

The Listón, made of gray trachyte from the Euganean Hills with white stone inserts, imitates the famous Piazza San Marco in Venice in its geometric patterned decoration.

The Palace of Cassa di Risparmio, on the eastern side of the square, was built in 1924 after a fire had destroyed the entire area on which the current building stands.
The south side houses the eighteenth-century Valeri Palace and Zanella Palace with its magnificent corolla fireplaces.
The Monte di Pietà Palace, on the west side, was built in the eighteenth-century as well, and, again on the same side, stands the Loggia Palace, dating back to 1877. A little further on is Santini Palace, a nineteenth-century building whose decorations praise the unification of Italy, and Pomello Chinaglia Palace, a marvelous fifteenth-century Tuscan-style palace that may have belonged to the Gatteschi da Narni or the Pisans.
