Chiesa dei Servi

A small jewel of art and history, it is the church of San Prosdocimo, also known as the Basilica of Santa Maria dei Servi, built by Benedetto Rizzo with a will dated October 24, 1497. The sacred building, completed around 1500, replaced the now declining church of San Prosdocimo, situated on the right bank of the Livenza River in the locality of Rivapiana and officiated by the parish priest of Mansuè.
 
After the pastoral action of the parish priest of Mansuè disappeared, we find the Servants of Mary (hence the name), who arrived at an unspecified date. They remained for about two centuries until they moved to a new and spacious location, consisting of five altars, supported by a functional guesthouse and open to the human and religious needs of the population, not just local residents.
Pope Alexander VII, with a bull dated April 12, 1656, permitted the sale of the convent, the church, and other assets, to provide substantial support to the Republic of Venice, which was constantly engaged in war against the Turks.
The new owner, Count Orio, a Venetian patrician, reduced the church and renovated the convent. The work began in 1786 and was completed in 1792. A second modification took place at the hands of the Rota family in 1810.
 
Today the temple is modestly sized: a single nave and three altars.
The main altar in gilded wood is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary. The altarpiece is by Paolo Ongaretto and depicts a Madonna with Child surrounded by lovely little angels: Maria's face is sweetly maternal, and the saints at her feet are St. Philip Benizi and St. Peter of Verona.
The right altar is dedicated to San Prosdocimo and houses a very ancient wooden statue, while the left altar is adorned with an altarpiece from 1828 depicting the Crucifixion. In the small and plain sacristy is the tomb of the Orio family.
