Route Description:
This is a naturalistic itinerary that winds along the top of the embankment of the Monticano River, connecting with the network of bike paths and minor roads located near the watercourse. It is the "river corridor" of the Monticano, where the landscape heritage and historical architectural elements define places of interest for both hikers and local enjoyment. The easternmost section of the GiraMonticano borders the town of Motta di Livenza, from which one can continue, by land or river, towards Caorle or Sacile, utilizing the tourist routes along the Livenza. Also notable in Motta is the spiritual theme, with the famous Sanctuary of the Madonna dei Miracoli. Continuing westward, one reaches Gorgo al Monticano, home to two remarkable Venetian Villas, now part of established hospitality businesses, where one can taste the local gastronomic specialties. Further upstream, the Monticano is accompanied by large park areas, ideal for rest and leisure. The itinerary then leads to Oderzo, the ancient Opitergium, where in the historic center you can find archaeological excavations from the Roman era, interesting museums, and numerous prestigious commercial establishments. Finally, the route reaches Fontanelle, following the Monticano River, with a well-maintained rural landscape, offering multiple services for tourists and “places of value” such as Villa Marcello del Majno, with its wine cellar, the nearby Church of San Pietro, and the splendid Villa Galvagna in the locality of Saccon di Lia.
