The Turbine is a monument dedicated to the victims of workplace accidents. It is made of cast iron and stone and is painted in vibrant colors: red, green, and blue. It is accompanied by the inscription: "The industrious city of Schio and A.N.M.I.L. to the fallen at work - maimed and disabled".
It was designed by engineer De Pretto in 1905 and was initially used at the Grendene mills in Schio.
In the 1990s, it was decided to build a monument dedicated to those who had died or been maimed in workplace accidents. A decision had to be made about what type of monument to create and where to place it.
A public competition was announced, with 20 projects submitted and a jury created, but in the meantime, the funds ran out, and the traffic situation had changed, making the originally intended location no longer available.
Two traffic islands were constructed to improve the flow of traffic, and the two flower beds took up part of the space allocated for the monument.
The cultural assessor, Dr. De Zen, then proposed to use an old turbine, a symbol of the industry in Schio, especially since an old Francis turbine had been donated to the ITIS of Schio, restored by the students, and placed in the school courtyard.
It was positioned near the bridge over the Timonchio, right on the first traffic island, and inaugurated in 1999.
