With an exhibition of 8000 horses and regulated on March 16, 1874, the fair is considered the pride of the city of Lonigo.
Prof. Jacopo Silvestri informs in his memoirs that, presenting himself as a citizen of Lonigo in Austria, he was immediately associated with the fair, and even King Vittorio Emanuele II knew of the Vicentine town thanks to this event.
Of course, the fair needed a place that could accommodate the large number of people and animals.
This place was identified as the Hippodrome Park or more commonly known as the “Circle”.
The name itself suggests its original purpose: the park was used to host horse races that took place during the fair period.
In 1868, the Society of Horse Races in Lonigo was founded, and through a Statute, a concentric track was built within the facility, which was used to showcase the horse breeds.
Only from 1909 did the fair also become an exhibition for agricultural and industrial equipment with several events throughout the year.
