Teatro Comunale di Lonigo

Piazza Giacomo Matteotti 1 , Lonigo - 36045

The only historic theater of the nineteenth century in the province of Vicenza, dedicated to Giuseppe Verdi, the Teatro Comunale replaced the eighteenth-century Teatro dei Concordi to meet the need for a venue accessible to the clerical, working-class, and peasant populations of the city of Lonigo.

Designed by Giovanni Carraro, it was inaugurated on October 23, 1892, with the performance of A Masked Ball, and until 1977 hosted important names in opera and prose.
Transformed into a cinema and then closed for extensive restoration, which added a service building, it reopened in 1993 and has since hosted an annual rich season of prose, music, and dance.

The vaguely Art Nouveau foyer adorned with pink wood, the painted decoration of the hall by the Venetian Giuseppe Dolcetta, the friezes of the three tiers of boxes, and that of the proscenium, featuring two griffins holding the clock and the lamps by the master glassmakers of Murano, make the Comunale of Lonigo a masterpiece of elegance and beauty and of rare acoustic perfection.

Since 2016, the Teatro Comunale di Lonigo has been directed by Alessandro Anderloni.
