Chiesa di Lovara

Chiesa di San Pietro di Lovara

Via Lovara, 50 , Trissino - 36070

Dedicated to Saint Peter, it is already mentioned in a document dated 1360. It was radically rebuilt in the 17th-18th centuries, and in 1838 work began on the new bell tower. In 1906 it was proclaimed a parish, while in 1914, based on a project by Gerardo Marchioro from Castelnuovo, construction of the new church began, on the site of the previous one, featuring a single nave with two side altars. Noteworthy is the 17th-century altarpiece depicting the patron saint, on the altar of Saint Peter from 1670, and the 18th-century sculpture of the Madonna and Child, placed in the niche of the altar of the Madonna from 1712; the latter came from the now-lost church of the Disconzi, in the area of Piana Cattiva. Finally, in 2006, the church underwent a complete restoration.                                                                                             With the festival in June 2010, the church was enriched by two works from the Vicenza painter Anna Maria Trevisan.
The two canvases in Renaissance style are perfectly legible and integrate well into the context of the church, particularly in the presbytery above the choir.
The main subjects of the depictions are Saint Peter, the patron saint of the parish, in two of the most well-known episodes of his life: “The washing of the feet” and “The miraculous catch of fish.”
