Porta dell'orologio 1

Porta o torre Trevigiana (o dell'orologio)

Piazza Castello , Noale (VE) - 30033

In front of this door, the oldest document mentioning the castle of Noale was signed in 1193.

However, to have more specific information about the structure, one must wait until the full 14th century. In the Middle Ages, this was the most important entrance to the castle, as it faced the inhabited village and nearby intersected the main communication routes to Padua, Treviso, and Venice.

It is not precisely known when the defensive enclosure protecting the door was built, which can still be seen today: however, some documentary evidence allows it to be dated to the 15th century, if not earlier.

The oldest name, “trevigiana,” derives from the proximity of the road leading to the city of Treviso.

Just before 1489, the Venetian authorities had a large mechanical clock built on the tower, so from that moment on, the structure began to be called the “tower of the Hours.”
