Opened on 3rd March 1585, it is Andrea Palladio’s last work and masterpiece. It is the oldest roofed theatre in the world and it was designed drawing inspiration from the ancient Greek and Roman theatres. Its famous perspective scenery of the Streets of Thebes was designed by Vincenzo Scamozzi. In Spring the theatre hosts classical music performances and some concerts of the Vicenza Jazz International Festival, in Autumn the opera and the prestigious classical plays Ciclo di Spettacoli Classici. Short shows of lights and music are scheduled at 9.30-10.30-11.30 and at 14.30-15.30-16.30 (July and August at 10.30-11.30-12.30 and at 15.30-16.30-17.30).
