Villa Molin Avezzù Fratta Polesine

Via Zabarella, 15 , Fratta Polesine - 45025

Located in the center of a sort of "island" between the Scortico and a minor canal, Villa Loredan Grimani Molin Avezzù-Pignatelli reveals itself to the visitor in its originality, constituting a unique artistic example within the context of the Renaissance villa phenomenon. Inspired in its forms by the nearby Villa Badoer, the building is the result of a blend of architectural styles of Ferrarese, Mantuan, and Palladian origins, which prevent the identification of the designer or attribution to a specific master. The most recent sources seem to agree in attributing the current forms of the Villa, completed around 1554, to the Venetian nobleman Vincenzo Grimani and his wife Lucrezia Loredan. The architectural complex consists of the main body, introduced by the façade with a rusticated base and an upper pronaos flanked by two lateral staircases with a railing, and a barchessa located on the west side, completely detached from the main building. The rooms of the noble floor house frescoes by an unknown author depicting allegorical and mythological scenes surrounded by elaborate grotesques.
