The monument to the Carbonari of Fratta Polesine is the first monument erected in Italy after the liberation from Austrian domination in 1866 and symbolizes the tough struggle for freedom and independence of our country.
Designed by Andrea Provini and sculpted by Grazioso Spazzi, it was inaugurated on June 16, 1867, and since then it has been known among the people of Fratta as the Column of the Martyrs.
At the base of the monument are inscribed the names of the condemned and the inscription in memory of the painful events: Fratta from Spielberg Venice Ljubljana, the painful echo of its martyrs of 1821, gathering in this marble writes its history.
