Chiesa di San Martino

The church of San Martino has existed since the year 1000, but it was destroyed in the battle against the Genoese in 1379.
Between 1712 and 1715, with the help of some inhabitants who settled in the area, the church began to be rebuilt and today we can still admire its perimeter walls and façade.
The foundation stone of the majestic church of today was blessed by Bishop Mons. Jacopo de' Foretti on December 8, 1859.

The new church, opened for worship in 1900, was constructed with an east-west orientation towards Chioggia as if it wanted to compete in grandeur with the imposing Cathedral located in the historic center of Chioggia. 

The single-nave church houses:
- the main altar and the choir, remodeled in 1976 according to the design of architect Gianni Grasso.
- the beautiful tabernacle from the 18th century and the pictorial complex by Luigi Tomaz (1968) behind the tabernacle, which represents the Eucharistic Mystery;
- the ancient altar that housed the relic and the icon of the Madonna of Marina, which appeared on the coast at Sottomarina in 1508. The altar dates back to 1608, the first centenary of the apparition, was donated by the then Bishop Prezzato and came from the ancient Marian sanctuary, established at the site of the apparition;
- the Via Crucis on a gold background by local painter Renzo Nordio (1977), who is also responsible for the large canvas of the Resurrection (1976), hung above the choir arch.
