The church of Sant’Elena is located at the top of the hill crest that dominates the territory of Pederobba. Hidden by a patch of woodland, it is very close to the walls of the Bastia, which previously were part of the Castrum of the Onigo family, with documents attesting to its presence since 1183. Originally, the small church was the ancient country chapel belonging to the noble Da Onigo family. The church has medieval origins and is dedicated to Saint Helena, the saint who protected pilgrims. Inside, there is an ancient tomb from 1333, containing the remains of the noble Guglielmo d’Onigo, nephew of Gualpertino. The tombstone bears the name of Guglielmo, along with an inscription with the testamentary obligation to celebrate a daily mass for his soul. Inside the church, there were three ancient wooden statues, including that of Saint Helena, now kept in a more secure place, while still inside, there is the ancient stone from which a spring of water, considered miraculous, flowed until 1900. Next to the church, there used to be a dormitory, probably of Benedictine origin, where an eremite lived in the eighteenth century. The eremite had land, a garden, and a small house, and to reach the chapel, one had to pass through the eremite's house, which has since been transformed into a sacristy. Monastic presence at the hermitage of Sant’Elena gained new momentum with the arrival of Camaldolese monks from 1979 to 1994. They then moved to the church of Santa Maria in Colle in Montebelluna.
