The ancient tower of the Borgo is the top of the pentagon constituted by the walls; the tower is almost angular, but only a little more extended than the towers that we find along the entire perimeter of the walls.
In 1504 the Venetians opened a breach (the door was at the time called "Porta Nuova"), to facilitate the passage of wagons which, with all kinds of products, had to go to the Frassine river port.
From the early years of the Renaissance, with the mighty advent of firearms, the walls acquired more of a customs value than a purely defensive one. Some changes were thus made for reasons of various convenience.
Porta Vicenza was closed due to the onset of war events linked to the Cambrai War, and subsequently reopened. In 1595 the corresponding bridge was restored, which became brick in the year 1700. The nearby raised tower, equipped with spiers and large windows, is called "dei Battù", modified in 1602 to become the bell tower of the Cathedral.
