The Chiesa di San Lorenzo is the Cathedral of Mestre.
Officially consecrated in 1830, the current neoclassical building dates back to the late 18th century, designed by Venetian architect Bernardino Maccaruzzi.
It stands on the site of a previous church, demolished in the 18th century as it was considered too small, of which very little is known. While the date of its foundation is unknown, historical sources attest to the existence of a church dedicated to Saint Lawrence since the 12th century, already rebuilt for the first time around the mid-15th century.
Inside the cathedral today, seven altars are preserved, of which the main one, in the presbytery, is dedicated to Saint Lawrence.
