In 1938, the building was repurposed as the headquarters of the Adriatic Electricity Company (S.A.D.E.), leading to several structural modifications. These included the expansion of the main building, the removal of the original gallery, and the installation of a new staircase. The entrance area was also altered, replacing walls with columns and relocating frescoes to the newly built stairwell.
The villa’s formal garden, once a hallmark of its refined elegance, was gradually lost—particularly in the post-World War II years—due to surrounding urban development.
In 2008, the City of Venice acquired the property and began a restoration project. Today, Villa Erizzo is home to the VEZ Civic Library and serves as a dynamic cultural hub. The adjacent guesthouse has been transformed into VEZ Junior, a dedicated library space for children and young adults. The complex also features a café and inclusive facilities catering to all age groups.
