The fountain that adorns the square Pietro Scalcerle, hero of the Italian Risorgimento born in Thiene in 1830, is the work of Tomaso Buzzi (Sondrio, September 30, 1900 – Rapallo, February 16, 1981).
The discovery is due to the Turin architect and historian of applied arts, Davide Alaimo, who, as a guest of some friends from Thiene, recognized in the fountain of piazza Scalcerle the one designed by Buzzi and displayed at the Triennale of Monza in 1930:
it is a large basin made by the “Società anonima marmisti” of Vicenza, surrounded by a balustrade adorned with panoplies and marine trophies, vases, and stylized fish according to an elegant neoclassical style reinterpreted in a Deco key.
