The route of the “Vaca Mora” railway, the old train, today comprises a charming cycling path that leads from Piovene Rocchette to Velo d’Astico and then to Arsiero through the valley. Along the path, there are numerous points of interest: tunnels, panoramic views, the Rocca di Meda, and the little church of San Giorgio. This valley has always held strategic-military importance due to its border with the Trentino territory.
The cycle-pedestrian route, despite its brevity of less than 10 km (one way), is a true gem. The path is carved out of the former Rocchette-Arsiero railway, part of the Torrebelvicino, Schio, Thiene, Rocchette, Arsiero, and later Asiago railway network. The construction dates back to 1885.
The walk is suitable for everyone: cyclists, runners, walkers, strollers, and it is also ideal for Nordic walking.
Along the route, you can encounter numerous points of interest: scenic tunnels, bridges, views of old industrial archaeology sites, the Eremo di Meda, the little church of San Giorgio, the alleys of Arsiero, and the former Velo-Seghe station, now a bar/restaurant. The landscape is rich with cultivated fields and views of the Cimone di Tonezza, Cengio, Paù, and the Priaforà-Novegno-Summano group.
Upon reaching Arsiero, one can walk through the alleys towards the Posina stream and then continue towards Val Posina. This second stretch is more challenging than the previous one, allowing one to delve into the gorges of the Posina valley, following the Stancari path and continuing towards the valley. From here, one can continue to Castana, Posina, or Laghi.
