The building is located in the central Piazza Balbi Valier, right above the war memorial, and was built at the behest of Count Balbi Valier himself. The construction dates back to the second half of the 19th century. As with Palazzo Vaccari, it was designed by engineer Ferdinando Chisini. The Loggia dei grani was born with a commercial and mercantile value since the grain and livestock market was held in the square.
In the historical loggia there was an old tavern, the place where livestock was traded and the market held nearby, which was renovated and reopened after restoration work.
Descending the steps of the loggia, one comes to a pretty little square overlooking the garden of the old Albergo Leon d'Oro with a characteristic fountain.
