Cal Santa is one of the most characteristic streets in the historical centre. Already at the end of the 17th century, the street was important from a religious point of view due to the presence of a Way of the Cross connecting the Cathedral and the Cemetery. Today, the capitals (with modern frescoes) and the Holy Door, a recent construction that introduces the final station and simulates the entrance to the Holy City, can still be seen here. But this street is also one of the most important places in Pieve di Soligo from a historical-artistic and literary point of view, here the poet Andrea Zanzotto lived some of the best years of his childhood and youth, in a house with typical 19th-century Veneto architecture, adjacent to other similar buildings, decorated by his father, the painter Giovanni. The poet loved this district so much that he called Cal Santa his ‘Zauberkraft’, the magic quarter. The house in which Andrea Zanzotto lived is now known as the Paternal House and is the seat of the Foundation of the same name.
