Oasi LIPU - Sentiero della Garzaia

The Lipu Oasis Garzaia di Pederobba is located within the site of Natura 2000 Network classified as ZPS IT3240034: The Garzaia di Pederobba and SIC IT3230088: River Piave from Maserot to the Grave of Pederobba. It is situated in an area of great natural value between the provinces of Treviso and Belluno, where the Piave enters the foothill area. The riverbed in this stretch is characterized by wide expanses of gravel, riverine forests dominated by poplars and willows, with sparse underbrush consisting of Amorpha Amorpha fruticosa and Buddleia Buddleja davidii, and terraced land covered with herbaceous vegetation, typical of “magredo” areas. The area is surrounded by two waterways: the Piave river, which is torrent-like, and the spring waters of the S.Giacomo fountains, which flow slowly. The entire area extends over a surface of 163 hectares, in this context the Lipu Oasis occupies the central part, the 6-hectare forest where herons nest (garzaia). The nests are placed on mature poplar trees at heights ranging from 4-5 to 10-15 meters.
