The property, in fact, belonged to the owner of most of the materials constituting the museum institution that had acquired part of the real estate specifically for cultural use and for the purpose of becoming a Museum.
Since the 1980s, it has been through the decisive and almost unique interest of a private individual that the collection, restoration, cataloging, and partially also the exhibition of artifacts, tools, and anything related to material culture and ethnography linked to fishing, hunting and related activities, as well as those still available in the lagoon valley areas and peri-lagoon areas of Venice, have begun.
In 2008, the institution formalized its legal status with the deposit of the Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws under the name “Museum of the Territory of the Lagoon of Venice – Ecomuseum Onlus” and adopted the following mission: “The Museum of the Territory of the Valleys and Lagoon of Venice is a permanent private institution, non-profit, at the service of society and its development, open to the public, which conducts research on the material testimonies of man and his environment, acquires, preserves, communicates and above all exhibits them for study, education, and enjoyment.”
In 2009, with the support of the Municipality of Campagna Lupia and through a specific resolution that establishes to “provide adequate location for the materials […] so as to make them suitable for public opening” and to “allocate part of the premises of the former municipal school of Lova for the establishment of the Museum of the Territory of the Valleys and the Lagoon of Venice as well as its Library/Archive for 25 renewable years,” the setup of the museum location at the building in Lova of Campagna Lupia begins.
