The church, built in 1492 and dedicated to Our Lady of the Snow, is located on the hills of Bregonze in Carrè at Fratta and is commonly referred to as the "Fratta church".
The dedication to Our Lady of the Snow is due to the homonymous cult that became widely spread between the 15th and 18th centuries. This devotion is connected to a miraculous event that took place on August 4, 352: Giovanni, a wealthy Roman patrician, had a dream vision of the Virgin who asked him to build a church where he would find fresh snow the following morning. The next day, the man rushed to Pope Liberius, who had the same vision, and together they confirmed that the miracle had occurred. The snow had fallen on the Monti neighborhood, where the current Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome was later built.
The main altar hosts a polychrome statue representing the "Madonna with Child": on the base, the date 1490 is engraved along with the signature "Opus Hieronimi Vice", that is, Girolamo Vicentino.
