It was built in neoclassical style based on a design by the architect Baguti, in the five-year period between 1834 and 1839.
During the pastoral visit of Bishop Farina, he expressed his admiration for the new parish church in this way: "The Church is truly magnificent and of exquisite architectural taste. It is adorned with magnificent stuccos. The parapet of the organ and the pulpit are embellished with fine works. The choir is very spacious and elegant. It has five altars, all placed in side chapels. The main altar dedicated to the 'Immaculate Conception is majestic and well-equipped. The ciborium and the oil vessels are in order. The Stations of the Cross are established canonically. The altar of the Sacred Heart is in perfect order. In front of this and all the other three side altars, there is a magnificent work in plaster. The altar dedicated to the Blessed Virgin of the Rosary is in order. The cross for the consecration at the main door is missing. The confessionals, the Baptistery, the doors of the church are in order. The altar dedicated to S. Carlo, as well as the one dedicated to the Blessed Virgin of Mount Carmel are in full compliance. However, although these altars are not very well furnished, they are maintained with great propriety and elegance."
