L'Omo monumento al Tessitore

The Monument to the Weaver, placed on a high cylindrical pedestal with an octagonal base designed by Caregaro Negrin, was dedicated in 1879 by Alessandro Rossi to his workers to show them the figure of the model weaver, which is certainly not the real one, worn out by the factory, but rather the one envisioned by the entrepreneur, as revealed by the statuesque confidence of the powerful figure holding, with pride, the tool of his trade, the shuttle, to which he turns his gaze, and at his feet lies the product of his work, the fabrics. The life of the "model" worker is inspired by the principles dictated by the entrepreneur and inscribed in large letters at the base of the pedestal: "We claim by renewing the art of our fathers - equals before the loom as before God - the future belongs to the working people - yesterday's capital is tomorrow's work - ready with the shuttle for the family, with the rifle for Italy and the King - work liberates and elevates us - conquests of work are conquests of gold - from the loom comes savings, from savings comes ownership." Currently, this figure represents for the people of Schio the symbol of the industrial activity to which the city owes its notoriety.
