Murazzi are some remains of the gigantic seawalls; built by the Republic of Venice, conceived by Vincenzo Maria Coronelli, it was built under the direction of Bernardino Zendrini as a sea defence of the sand bars and as a safeguard for the whole lagoon. Originally it was 1.200 metres long, to which a further 4.000 metres were added along the Pellestrina coast, beyond the port of Chioggia.
