The urban center of Meduna di Livenza shows signs of ancient nobility; houses and streets surround the Piazzale Municipio, a majestic rectangular square with a central fountain, which is currently bordered by both the municipality and the former Casa Tolot and the municipal park. The municipality was originally the residence of the noble Venetian patricians Michiel de la Meduna, and the former Casa Tolot was the stable of the Palace. In front of the former Casa Tolot, now a center for social and cultural activities since 1840, stood the Palazzo della Cancelleria: a large building with a portico. The Municipality building is formed by the fusion of what remains of the ancient castle with the palace of the Venetian Patricians Michiel della Meduna. The castle of Meduna arose around the year 1000 at the initiative of the Patriarchs of Aquileia, which during the Middle Ages until 1420, was not only an ecclesiastical institution but a State that extended approximately as far as the current region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia. The first family settled in the castle took the name of the castle itself: they were called "Di Meduna." Then there were events involving the Da Camino, who already owned Motta di Livenza, and the Da Carrara. The palace became the town hall around 1500 and was remodeled several times in subsequent periods. During the Austro-Hungarian occupation, it suffered severe damage; at the end of World War I, various restorations were necessary, and subsequently, the palace became the seat of a consortium of farmers.
