The Sanctuary of Madonna dell’Angelo
Viale Madonna dell'Angelo 12 , Caorle (VE) - 30021
The Sanctuary stands at the left extremity of the cliff promenade. It is possibly the most ancient sacred building in Caorle and has its origins back to the VI or VII century AD; initially it was devoted to St. Michael Archangel. Inside, the wooden statue of the Virgin Mary stands out, which, according to tradition, appeared to some fishermen while floating in the sea on a marble throne; successively it was brought ashore and placed inside the church. From then on the sanctuary was renamed Madonna dell'Angelo. The present building dates back to 1751, when Bishop Suarez ordered the demolition of the old one and the reconstruction in the form it is today.
