Maria Ausiliatrice

Chiesa di Maria Ausiliatrice

Calle don Bosco, 361 , Chioggia (VE) - 30015

The building complex of the San Giusto oratory and the church of Maria Ausiliatrice was built with a donation from a benefactor, Giustina Furlan, who in 1888 acquired an area that had previously occupied by houses and boatyards; in July 1897 work was begun on the building which included an oratory, a church. a theatre, and areas for recreational activities. The complex consists of a block of three buildings laid out as a cross and interpenetrated by a wide portico, typical of Salesian institutes, and with Venetian architectural elements from the end of 19th century.

Since October 1900 the Benedictine church has undergone various reconstructions, the most important of which was in 1958 when it was enlarged by creating a lateral nave (the San Giovanni Bosco chapel) under the south-east terrace, with marble embellishments. The wooden statue of Maria Ausiliatrice is by the artist from Garda, Fernando Perathoner.
