The church was built in 1208 near the Ponte Vecchio, by order of Ezzelino the Monk, it was later enlarged and used as a convent for the Franciscans.
In the fourteenth century, it was transformed by the Benedictine nuns into a hospital, then it was again ceded to the Franciscans.
Between 1221 and 1226 there were Saint Francis of Assisi and Saint Anthony of Padua and in the course of the 20th century some renovations were carried out in order to recreate the cell that housed the two religious.
The interior of the church houses an altarpiece of the Madonna and Child enthroned with San Donato and San Michele Arcangelo, the work of Francesco dal Ponte il Vecchio, father of the famous Jacopo.
