In the 15th century, with the advent of the Venetian Republic, new settlements and new landlords were established, the noble Da Porto family, who desired religious autonomy and thus a definitive separation from the parish of Torrebelvicino, which they obtained on November 22, 1497, when Pope Alexander VI separated the two churches. It was from that moment on that conflicts began between Torre and Enna. Between 1782 and 1785, the church was enlarged, after which Veneto came under Austrian rule. In the 20th century, there were various Confraternities that were part of the church (Most Holy Sacrament, Rosary, Daughters of Mary, St. Louis, etc.) Also in this century, the roof of the church was renovated and communication routes were improved; however, with World War II, Enna, like other nearby towns, became depopulated and even the parish priest left the church. Finally, in 2000, the parish priest of Torre, Don Armando Taldo, became the parish priest of Enna.
Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista in Enna
Via Fusinato , Torrebelvicino - 36036
Initially erected as a chapel for the devotion of Germanic immigrants, Enna depended on the parish of Torrebelvicino until November 22, 1497. This date marks the issuance of the bull by Pope Alexander VI which separated the church of San Giovanni Battista from the matrix of San Lorenzo di Torrebelvicino, granting it full autonomy.
