The Casone originally served mainly as a shelter for wealthy hunters who very often came from Padua. Since hunting and fishing were reserved, hunters signed a contract with the administration and could hunt for a fee, always accompanied by the keeper who had to check that they did not cross the boundaries with the countryside where hunting was prohibited.
This casone, whose name seems to derive from the fact that it was built on a pocket that reaches to the countryside, like a real bridgehead from land to valley, is positioned directly on the lagoon, in the vast Millecampi Valley.
Today it is possible to rent canoes to take a tour of the lagoon.
It was filmed in “La moglie del prete”, a film by Risi that saw it as a movie set in which Loren and Mastroianni starred.
The Casone, owned by the Province of Padua, was restored by it in the late 1990s.
