A particular feature that makes Caltrano known is certainly the presence of the Giro delle Malghe.
It is a medium-easy route considering its length. It does not present particular difficulties and is almost completely flat.
The path is easy to follow and identify, because it is well marked by specific arrows, signs, and boards present at various points along the route. It is accessible to everyone, not only for hiking enthusiasts but also for families with children, on foot, by bicycle, MTB, e-bike and on horseback.
The length is about 15 kilometers and the time of journey is 6 hours, including lunch break.
It is a loop path, winding through green pastures and lush woods and, for a good part, enjoys a scenic view of the Venetian plain. On clear days, it is even possible to glimpse the Laguna of Venice on the horizon.
It can be easily accessed from the Bar Alpino refuge for those coming from Cesuna, and from the road that climbs from Bocchetta Granezza or Mortisa for those coming respectively from Lusiana and Calvene.
The best time to traverse this itinerary is definitely during the summer, when the respective malghe, Malga Carriola, Malga Paù, Malga Sunio, Malga Foraoro, Malga Serona and Malga Fondi, are open and when one wants to escape the heat of the plain.
When all six malghe open to the public, an opportunity arises to taste and purchase local products, especially the dairy products.
During the winter period, the Giro delle Malghe can be undertaken differently: one can engage in winter sports and use different equipment such as sSnowshoes or crampons, being careful of weather conditions.
