The drama of the two Wars left serious and deep structural wounds, but the dream of giving the city its identity and its most beautiful face was always alive. 1952 marked the year of an initial rebirth with the reopening of the spaces designed and fitted out by Forlati, Muraro and Coletti, and 1959 saw the extension to house the municipal collection of modern art.
New problems emerged over the following years, until the closure due to unfit use in 2003, which initiated the most important renovation and refurbishment project ever conceived for these spaces. A long and radical architectural and structural intervention based on a project by Studiomas Architetti and Heinz Tesar, which, in a much applauded city ceremony on 29 October 2015, handed back to the city another jewel of its articulated and precious civic heritage.
A façade completely redesigned in its elegant accuracy, in dialogue with the urban fabric that welcomes it, invites us to enter and allow ourselves to be drawn in, leading us to get to know its many stories and important protagonists.
Today, the splendid Galleria del Novecento (20th Century Gallery), with about 340 works from the second half of the 19th century to the first half of the 20th century, welcomes visitors with masterpieces by the great Treviso artist Arturo Martini (Treviso1889 - Milan 1947), offering an extraordinary uniqueness of his poetics.
