Villa Galvagna Giol

In the heart of Marca Trevigiana , few steps from the center of Oderzo, stands Villa Galvagna Giol. This Villa is immersed in its large secular park and surrounded by the river Lia. In the late 19th century, Queen Natalia of Serbia, was often a guest of Baroness Galvagna. A beautiful photograph shows the ladies in front of the large mullioned window of the villa. Behind them there is Draga Mascin, firstly she was the lady-in-waiting to the queen but she was destined to become queen of Serbia in turn, despite the very humble origins and the opposition of all. She became Queen because she married the son of Natalia, King Alessandro Obrenovic. Another special guest of the villa was Richard Lionel Guidoboni Visconti, presumed son of Honoré de Balzac, buried in the cemetery of Oderzo. The beautiful book of Eugenio Bucciol “From Versailles to Villa Galvagna”, which illustrates its history, was presented in 1999 in the hall of the villa. At the time of Baron Galvagna, the villa hosted a famous collection of Japanese art objects as well as an important collection of archeological finds, which can now be admired in large part in the Archaeological Museum of Oderzo. After taking over the ownership of the villa, Giovanni Giol wanted to present it to the Museum with the intention of saving them from the depredation caused by the last wars. In fact, occupied first by the enemy troops and then by the allies, it became an American military hospital and therefore shelter for the displaced persons of the great flood of the Polesine, the villa fell into decay. Only with the recent restoration , expertly carried out by Alberto Giol, together with that of the Barchessa, both completed in 1999, has it been able to regain its lost beauty. One the barchessa, used for agricultural use, while maintaining its original character typical of the Venetian countryside, has been restored with particular attention to the purpose to which it was intended. Large spaces wisely divided, equipped kitchens and adequate services , make it a structure particularly suitable for wedding receptions, corporate meetings, events of various types taught, in addition to the help of excellent catering services. It can also count on the truly unique beauty of the environment in which it is located. The changing of the season colors the secular park of Villa Galvagna Giol, that is always suitable in every season to host the events to be organized. Designed at the beginning of the 19th century according to the romantic fashion of the time, it is very impressive and takes place over an area of ten hectares. Centuries-old plants (listed as among the most representative in their species) enrich it by reflecting in the water of three lakes that are joined together by numerous streams, crossed by bridges.
