In the Alpine Botanical Garden S. Marco, natural species from the surrounding area of the Piccole Dolomiti Venete are cultivated, but also partly from the Prealpi Venete or the southern-eastern Prealps. The area, although small, presents a great variety of environmental situations, compatible with the different ecological needs of the cultivated species.
A section of the Garden features the typology of “rock gardens” with the respective “scoops” of soil in which the various species are cultivated. In some cases, related species have been grouped together, so that the morphological differences that distinguish them can be compared and their great variety of forms can be appreciated.
The Garden also presents some characteristic environments: the beech forest, the wetland, and the mountain meadow; here the species are not cultivated but are only indicated at the time of flowering. The entire path is accompanied by a series of informative panels that illustrate aspects not only strictly botanical but also of a more general naturalistic character.
How to get there:
Heading towards Passo Pian delle Fugazze, the Garden is located on the left. Shortly after the Rifugio Balasso, at kilometer 44, park the car in the parking lot on the left.
