Villa Marcello

Via Spinada, 6 , Fontanelle - 31043

The architectural complex that surrounds it, immersed in a magnificent park with centuries-old trees, testifies to the Civilization of the Venetian Villas, a constant intertwining of agricultural activity and a holiday resort. Elisabetta Galvani Onigo, an ancestor of the current owners, made modifications to the Villa and the Estate at the beginning of the 19th century, consolidating the cultivation of the vine, a tradition that the family has always kept alive and that has been passed down with passion and expertise, particularly by Count Alessandro and his son Marco Marcello Del Majno.

According to Olivieri, the toponym derives from the name of a wealthy Roman, Lotterius or Lotteius, who with his possessions named the locality. Lutrano is a very ancient village, but it seems to be burdened by the conspiracy of silence, as the information that has reached us about its past events is very scarce. Lutrano is crossed by an important Roman road that led from the ancient Opitergium to Ceneda and Serravalle. Around 1820, the Tiepolo family sold the property to Antonio Galvani. His daughter Elisabetta made modifications to the villa, creating four rooms from the attics by uniting the existing buildings with a terrace.
During World War I, Fontanelle was invaded by the Austro-Hungarian army; during this period, the invading troops destroyed, among other things, everything in the villa, so nothing remains of the existing furnishings. In 1934, Count Prof. Alessandro Marcello became the owner, who was also the mayor of Fontanelle.
During World War II, the villa remained inhabited by the owners, but the park and its surroundings were occupied by German troops. The German units ordered the destruction of all the trees in the park except for the cypress trees, as they had been told that the soldiers from World War I were buried beneath them.
Fortunately, when the time for cutting came, a heavy snowfall arrived that prevented the order from being carried out.
Situated at the end of a vast meadow, which makes it very picturesque, the villa was adapted at the beginning of the 20th century and is currently in good condition.
